Our Trip to MIT
During the first week of Project Pomfret 2014, we traveled to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There we observed Through exploration of MIT we observed Edgerton's work in the "Harold E. Edgerton Strobe Alley," which was simply a hallway packed with Harold E. Edgerton's original work and tools used to take his photos. In the hallway, were displays containing the cameras from Edgerton's early work along with interactive examples of his procedures.
After a short tangent at a local Chipotle, we continued our Boston adventure by visiting the MIT Museum. Inside we explored the many exhibits, and the gift shop, before heading into a small group lesson taught by a former MIT student. In our lesson, we learned more about Edgeton and the concepts behind his photography. As the lesson went on we began an interactive portion where we took photos using a strobe; giving us our first taste of stopping time.
Inside the MIT Museum, we encountered many displays and interactive machines. Here we learned about some machines developed through science, art and technology. We were also able to view the many models of Polaroid cameras that have been invented over the years, which we compared to those that we used for our project.
